Spring Ahead...Fall Back

At 2 o'clock this morning those of us who live in areas that participate in Daylight Savings time had to turn our clocks back one hour. Last night before we went to bed DH and I did just that.

Unfortunately, my brain/body is very uncooperative, and didn't get with the program. This meant that I woke up at 5am, with my brain/body thinking that it was 6am. I don't know about you, but I try to sleep in until at least 7:30am on a Sunday morning. Now I knew that there was no way that I would be able to remain sleeping until what had been, just the day before 8:30. But 5am...that just seems unusually cruel!

What stinks is that I know sometime around 11am I will be wanting lunch and that somewhere around 8pm I'm gonna want to close my eyes and fall asleep. This is"jet lag" without the jet or the promise of a vacation. Since we are no longer, for the most part, an agrigarian society, can anyone tell me why we have to go through this two times a year?

Studies indicate that there is a rise in car accidently in the few days following these time changes. You all drive safely!

Lynn,

I live in a farming community, so the DST is still appropriate here. Some parts of the country no longer use it but it's kind of confusing having so many people on different times.

My grandson, who is on the Autistic Spectrum (he has Aspergers) always has a hard time adjusting to the time change. And yes, people are less alert when the clock changes.

Thanks for leaving your comments on my post for GTS. Blessings.

And I thought we were supposed to get an hour of extra sleep. Didn't work for me either. :-(

I like the sound of an 8 p.m. bedtime, though. :-)

the time change didn't help me get an extra hour of sleep either! It probably doesn't help much that I wake up without an alarm everyday so I get up when I get up.

re: webkinz...this weekend our Hallmark had them on sale!! Woo Hoo! We just bought a Clydesdale & a Black Bear the other day and they didn't have any that we had on our list, but I was able to get my friend 4 for her kids. Saved her $10!

Mary - It is hard for everyone, not just those on the spectrum to adjust to the time change. I did not like that it was dark at 5:30 this evening. waaaah!

Patti - Crawling into bed tonight at 8pm would be wonderful...realistically I won't get there until 11pm (which will feel like midnight).

Renee - I get up without the alarm everyday as well. How nice for your friend that you were able to save her some $.

I don't know why we still do it, but I can tell you why they moved the days this year.

The Guvment thought it would save energy.

Seriously.

Like, they could control sunlight.

Studies show...that they can't. No energy was saved. Can you believe that?

I feel you. I am visiting a state that doesn't observe daylight savings time, which is great except I have to remember to subtract the correct number of hours so I don't screw up the math and miss my flight home, Tuesday. I know, I know complain about a real problem. You visit the cat occasionally don't you? He isn't having a party in my absence, I hope.

Nancy - Unfortunately, I can believe it. As much as I try, I can't imagine how having to turn the lights on at 5pm instead of 6am is going to save anybody any energy.

Ms. Chica - Did you bring your slide rule with you? I'm sure that it will help you calculate the time difference, allowing for Daylightsavings time vs non Daylight savings time in different time zones. As far as Patches, he seems to be tied up with a Speech/Language Pathologist (and it isn't me) sigh.

I hate that we still do DST, but I don't mind falling back, compared to springing forward. We are on the west coast right now so we already fell back two hours from MN time. Then we fell back another hour to go off DST. When we go back home in a few days we will lose two hours but still have that one extra hour we gained. But I'm going to be so mixed up and tired I don't think it's going to matter.

They do not change the time in Japan, they do not change the time in Arizona where my parents live. When time change would occur in the US it would confuse me so much trying to figure out what time it was when thinking about calling family. In Italy they changed time on a different day then we did in the US, I just assumed that is why we changed the day we changed the clocks here was to coincide with the rest of the world, guess it would be politically incorrect for the government to say that.

I agree, no more clock changing.
