You'll Never Catch Me Doing This!

This is a picture of the Millau viaduct which is part of the A75-A71 expressway. It connects Paris and Beziers. I don't know about you but I don't think that I could ever drive across it unless I was given lots and lots of sedatives and chained to the vehicle. ( Acrophobia anyone?) Just looking at this picture gives me heart palpitations. If you click on the picture, it will bring up a larger photo, and you will see what I am talking about.

Not that I'm going to get to Paris anytime soon. sigh

Eeeek! Whenever we go over a bridge like this, we always continually say "poo-ee, poo-ee, poo-ee..." Don't ask me why. I can tell you this though...we'd be hoarse by the time we traversed this one for sure.

I would never, never traverse that span. Never.

You're right about enlarging it to understand the magnitude of it all.

It might not see so bad once you're on it. although if it was wiggly, I would probably be freaked some...I would have to travel on the inside lanes so I couldn't look over the edge. LOL!

Been there done that. Ha. I find driving along the pacific ocean in California to be just as scary in places, especially with all the twists and turns along cliffs. Yikes.

I did it about two years ago, and I can't even go up two stairs without feeling scared, but this was okay. Really. It looks much much worse inteh picture.

Sweeeeeet! Love it. Is that for real? That's so cool. I'd drive it in a heartbeat! But then you gotta realize, I 4x4 along cliffs with my wheels barely touching the road (or what road there is) so this is awesome. Great post Lynn.

Cool! Where's the ticket office?

A lovely viaduct, I'd say. Look, just close your eyes, and leave the driving to me. That cable-stayed suspension bridge is beautiful. As per French style, c'est magnifique!

Looks absolutely treacherous, but beautiful at the same time. My husband would make me drive it all the while panicking about not being in control. Definitely a no-win situation.

Joan - If saying 'poo-ee' helps you get across that's great. I would still have to be unconscious.

Patti - I guess we would both be looking for the 'alternate' route!

Renee - I would have to be on the inside lane, and they would need high walls along the outside for me to even consider going on it.

Marsha - You've really been on this bridge? Wow you are one brave woman. As far as Highway 1 in Central California, I agree. The only way that I can travel on it is if I am driving. Then I just stare at the middle of the road.

Leanne - You actually crossed over on this bridge and lived to tell about it. Wow. Can I have your autograph? lol

Michele - Yeah I figured that you would love it. Especially if they put lots of mud on it!

Patches - You'd have to be in quarantine too long before you could enter France and go on this route. It definitely would not be worth it...maybe next life you can return as a human and give it a try. Just be sure to look me up and let me know how it goes.

Ralph - Since neither Patti or I would be willing to go across this bridge/viaduct you may just have to ask Kid 1 or Kid 2 to join you instead.

Mave - If I were to ever even contemplate driving this bridge, I would definitely have to be the one driving, white knuckles and all.

OMG! I want to walk across it. I'm not even kidding. How cool would that be?

Lynn said...

Meno - To me it would not be cool, it would be absolutely terrifying. Unless I was drunk. Very, very, very drunk. But then I would either be weaving, which would be bad...very, very bad. Or passed out, which might make it doable.

So Lynn, have you ever been to the top of the Empire State Building?
(back in your N.Y. days?)

Lynn said...

Patti - I think that I have been to the top of both the Empire State Building and the Twin Towers. My heart was pounding both times. Heck, my heart pounds whenever I am on a ski lift. Of course that could be because I'm worried about how I am going to get off the lift. lol

Oh good lord. I guess that keeps the two cities from invading each other. ;-)

P.s. Help me! I need advice! Come see.

I could drive across it but I wouldn't like it, not one bit.

Mary said...

Oh my! I won't be doing it either.

I'm stopping by on my way to commenting on as many NaBloPoMo blogs as possible as part of the NaBloPoMo commenting challenge. :)

It's certainly a beautiful bridge; I'd be willing to go over it once, though probably only once. :)

Wow, what a picture.

I could not do it. High bridges scare me. Here's a new one to add to my repertoire. ;)

how high off of the ground is that????

There is no way you would get me on that bridge. I am chicken when it comes to crossing bridges over water. I am a little braver with freeway bridges but not by much. I guess I am not really a bridge fan at all come to think of it. Hard to drive with one's eyes closed!!!

Nancy - Good point, it would be difficult for invading armies to sneak into the other city while crossing that bridge.

Deb - You have courage!

Mary - We agree;~)

Sephyroth - Welcome to my blog. Once is one more time that I would do.

Shannon - Welcome to my blog.High anything scares me too.

Sari - Really, really high. One mast's summit is 1,125 ft high. That's slightly taller than the Eiffel tower and slightly shorter than the Empire state building.

Moose Buyer - I guess that means that we won't be crossing it together;~)
