My mom, Elle, Ten and I went out to dinner this evening. When we returned, we checked the mail and surprise, surprise, surprise (I'm channeling Gomer Pyle) there in the pile of mail, was a summon for jury duty. Oh wait, did I just say 'a' summons for jury duty. I meant to say 'two' summons (or is that summons's) for jury duty. One for me, and one for my 86 year old mother (yes the one with dementia).
Both summons were for the same date. I thought that the call for jury duty is supposed to be random. With millions of people living in Southern California, what are the odds of them calling two people, living at the same address, for jury duty on the same day, at the same location?
I think I better go buy a lottery ticket!

Oh please, send your mom. I so want to hear the outcome of that.
Pick me, pick me. Maybe I could go in Mom's place...you know how much I love jury duty. Oh wait...that was before I retired and viewed it as a vacation from work. Now it just gets in the way of all the fun stuff. OK...forget it...I un-volunteer.
shows you how well that system is working... is your mom still a registered voter? If not someone needs to update their records.
LOL! Yah, I would be buying a lottery ticket too. ;) that's just too weird.
Although my stepdad has been called at least 2 times since DD was born. Each time he has to call and tell them that he can't do it because he's too hard of hearing (he wears hearing aids that squeel all the time and that disqualifies him from serving.) But yet they still keep calling him. However my Mom hasn't ever been called and I've only been called once.
I worry about getting called since we homeschool. At least now I have someone who can watch her for me, but before I would have had to get DH to take off of work.
That certainly does not sound random to me.
strange.
Yes, buy a lottery ticket. You may be on a roll, a random roll ;-)
Randomly chosen, eh? Of course, and I'm a six foot frenchman, named Pierre.
I hope you get to hear an interesting trial! And I hope they vote your mother in as Jury Foreperson!
We both know that you have to write on mom's card that she has dimentia but you have to admit it would have been interesting if she could go. I would have loved to watch the Judge explain the case to mom. As far as you go, maybe if you write that you are mom's caregiver they will let you off the hook too, unless you want to go!!
re: dusting & bathrooms...LOL! ya those will get done the day she's coming or the day before.
I'm mostly concerned with getting the decluttering done. I think if I assigned more of my stuff a place to live in my house it wouldn't get piled up everywhere else. Like my camping gear in the laundry room. And finally *gulp* toss out some of the boxes I have in my basement.
Definitely buy a lottery ticket.
Oh yeah, a lottery ticket is in order. Use any numbers on your summons, along with 8 and 6.
Meno - It would actually be really, really sad if I sent my mom.
Joan - That's one problem with being retired.
Renee - Yes, my mom is still a registered voter.
Marsha - It is weird, isn't it?
Patti - I will definitely buy one, as soon as I get my paycheck straightened out.
Patches - Bonjour Pierre:~)
Pam - Alas, I believe that we will both manage to get excused.
The Moose Buyer - We went through this last year, both my mom and I were called for jury duty (but about a month apart), and we both were excused. You would think that with the doctors note, stating that my mom has dementia, that they wouldn't resummons her.
Deb - Maybe I will run out right now.
Nancy - 8 and 6 ... got it:~)
That's bizarre ... definately buy that lottery ticket.
I imagine your 86 year old mother can be excused !?!?!
Take care, Meow
I don't have the winning lottery ticket for you but how about a Sweet Treat Award? Come by when you get the time... I know you are so busy.
