I Should Have Listened to DH in the First Place.

I'm physically exhausted this morning. Yesterday, in an effort to remove the closet doors from Twelve's room and Ten's room (a story for a different day), I wiped myself out. Now you might say, removing closet doors is no big deal, just unscrew a couple of screws, and they're off. You would be correct, that's all that's involved in removing them however, I wasn't sure exactly where I would store them.

My DH had suggested that I could store them in the garage. I liked that suggestion, but was concerned that the doors might get banged up, and then 400 years from now, when we sell this house, we would have to have custom closet doors made. So I stupidly nixed that idea and figured that I would just store them in a shed, which is located at the side of our house.

Emptied the shed (which was no small chore, as this is a large shed filled with lots and lots of 'stuff'). Looked at all of the stuff and decided to get rid of some of it. (I emptied two 66 quart plastic containers, and two even bigger containers) Many of the things that I got rid of were old baby toys that Ten and Twelve outgrew long ago. Why did I hold onto them for so long? That's the $64,000 question. I guess that I just wasn't ready to let them go before now.

Twelve and I carried one of the closet doors downstairs and tried to put it in the shed. Noticed that I used the word 'tried'. Although I had measured the shed, and thought the door would probably fit inside, I didn't take into account the opening of the door to the shed. (not a bright move on my part). So, then I had to refill the shed and move onto Plan B, which was DH's original suggestion...The Garage.

I needed to clean out, and reorganize one side of the garage in order to be able to store the 4 closet doors along the side of the garage, where they hopefully won't get damaged. Did I mention that it was hot yesterday? Then Ten, Twelve and I had to clean out their messy, and now highly visible closets. More trash bags filled and dragged downstairs to the trash cans. (when did we all accumulate so much stuff?)

So, after much sweating and carrying, the closet doors are in the garage, 1/2 of the garage is organized, the shed has been somewhat emptied and reorganized, and I am exhausted.

Damn closet doors.

Your approach to "simple" projects is very similar to mine. I'd like to think that creating chaos from simplicity is a gift -- a sign of genius or something... Color me delusional.

I can't wait to hear why you had to remove the closet doors in the first place.

you have to admit that you did get a lot of exercise. That's a heck of a way to lose weight but I hope it worked.

Pam - I love that..."creating chaos from simplicity". You hit the nail on the head...Clearly the sign of a true genius!

The Moose Buyer - The doors kept coming off their tracts and Twelve didn't couldn't use her closet. As far as Ten's closet, I need to buy him a desk, and the closet doors had to come off to allow for a bigger desk. After all of that activity yesterday, and all that sweat, I didn't even lose 1 ounce. bah humbug!

My people approach tasks the same way. Just think of all the projects you can mark off your todo list, that never made it on your todo list. You're a model for efficiency.

Oh, this sounds just like some adventure I would get into! :)

Sounds like the kind of projects I get myself into.

Patches - You are so right, I can mark quite a few projects off of the todo list that I hadn't even realized that I had to do. Not only am I a "model for efficiency", if you believe Pam (see above) I am also a genius. This is getting better by the minute.

Liv - "Adventures" is a nice way to explain the mess I got myself into. It makes it sound so much more fun than it really was.

Renee - I wonder why we do this to ourselves?

This is a classic tale of snowballing. I know you are tired, but i am smiling.

Wow -I'm hot and tired just reading that. I'm sure it wasn't fun. But you clearly are an organized and efficient woman.

We removed a couple of closet doors. One of these bifold doors got caught on my power wheelchair, and I yanked the door of the tracks. Not good. But this door was replaced by a professional, and I took driving lessons :>)

This is where you and I differ. I would have just put them in the garage in the first place and not care about them getting scratched up. Because I'm hella lazy.

On the bright side, you're partially organized now with the garage & shed!

Meno - Snowball, heck it turned into an avalanche. Glad this made you smile.

Patti - I think disorganized and wasteful describe my housekeeping skills.

Ralph - I hate when closet doors jump out and attach themselves to you (or your chair). Those chairs can certainly be difficult to maneuver, did you have to get a 'Class 5' driver's license to drive that thing?

Arm - If the garage wasn't already so cluttered, I wouldn't have minded storing the closet doors there, but as it was, I had to organize the garage anyway. Anyone who makes another batch of fudge because the first one wasn't 'Fair Quality' is not lazy, in my book.

Ummm, I'm intrigued as to why you wanted to remove the doors in the first place ... how can you hide what's inside without the doors ???
Take care, Meow

I have often wanted to remove the doors from the closets....i tend to leave the doors open so much as it is, it is just annoying to have them around.....sometimes....

ah! sounds like my projects. one little thing leads to an entire afternoon's work.

Meow - Twelve wants curtains on her closet, because her doors always come off the tract, and I needed to remove Ten's doors because I need the space to fit a desk for him (it will partially go into the closet. I will post a picture when the desk arrives. I will make curtains for both of their closets, instead.

Chai - Closet doors certainly can get in the way, unless one is trying to hid a mess.

Sari - Isn't that the way of the busy mom?
