The Logic Defies Me

Can anyone come up with a logical answer to this question? Why would a boss ask someone to rank their schools in order of preference ( with #1 the school you want to keep the most), and then take away the persons second choice and leave them with their first, third and fourth choices? Just asking...

I'm sure there was some complex algorithm involved in this, but i don't know about logic.

Must be a week for weird logic. DH says he got funding for a project this week and then today they sent in paperwork taking back $0.37 of the funding. ??? DH had to call a bunch of people to find out what happened and never got a reason for why they took back 37 cents. But now they have to spend a few hundered dollars to fix the mess this has caused, because the contractor has already agreed to do the job for the original price, not 37 cents less.

Meno - Sometimes I think that my boss and her boss reside in an alternate universe in which logic does not exist.

Renee - Will the contractor take a 37 cent stamp? I'm sure that I have a few extra lying around...I'll be happy to send one to you.

It has nothing to do with logic. By giving you choices, your boss can operate under the illusion she being diplomatic...I say illusion because she obviously isn't fooling you.

It's probably because your boss was taught the new math and we all know that was a failure. Apparently in that world, the progression is 1,3,4,2 instead of 1,2,3,4.

was this a trick question????
Sure sounds like one.

I once heard that your first choice is always the thing you think you should choose, second choice is what you really want for yourself. Maybe boss heard this and wanted to twart you? Or maybe the second choice was unavailable? The world is full of weirdos.

Sounds like logic that a manager from my company would use.

Patches makes a very good point...I like it.

Patches - Just to prove that I know diplomatic/illusion bullshit when I see it, I have an appointment on Friday with my bosses boss. Not sure that I will have any better luck with her, but damn it...I will certainly try, and then there's always my union:~)

Joan - I think that my boss never learned any math, or anything for that matter, she is one of the dumbest people I know.

Only Oldest - I wish it were. I just didn't want to get caught up in a bitchfest. So I tried to keep it simple.

Marsha - The world is certainly full of weirdos, my boss being the biggest one of all. I don't think that she wanted to twart me, she just wasn't thinking (which is not unusual at all for her).

Arm - Yeah, the whole illusion/diplomatic idea that Patches brings up is really a good point.

So much pretense coming from that boss of yours. She sounds really strange.
That's good you are meeting with her boss.

Are they schools competing in a game? I think the boss is forcing you to think outside the box or some crap like that. Who knows.

Patti - Believe me...she is one dumb strange woman! We'll see if her boss is any better.

Egan - No, the schools are not competing in a game. These are schools that I currently serve. I was asked to rank the schools in order of preference (listing the one I definitely wanted to keep as #1 down to the one I definitely wanted to give up as #4). Boss lady somehow decided that getting rid of my #2 choice was the way to go.
