Is It A Big Deal, or Not?

I'm not sure what I want to write about today. I have two different thoughts...I can either write about my experience with sticky labels, or ask opinions on what if anything I should do for my 100th post (this is post #99).

If I were to talk about labels I would tell you that while in the grocery store the other day, Twelve and I spotted some plastic bowls that we thought would be great for cereal. I proceeded to buy 6 of them. When I got them home, I was going to put them in the dishwasher, before the first use. Oh wait, I looked at the bottom of the bowls and what did I see? You guessed it, there were sticky labels with the 'code' for the check out stand stuck with, what I'm thinking was crazy glue, onto the bottom of the bowls. Why, oh why, do stores feel it necessary to permanently affix their stickers onto their products. These bowls were $1 each. The amount of elbow grease and time that I needed to use to get the darn labels off was disproportionate to the value of the bowls. Reminds me of the time that I bought a picture frame, and needed to use nail polish remover to get the label off of the glass. Does anyone have an answer?

If I were to talk about the fact that my next post will be my 100th, I would ask what, if anything, I am supposed to do to mark the milestone? Is 100 posts really any big deal? What about 150, 250, 500, 1000? If you've reached 100 posts, please let me know what, if anything you did...and if you haven't reached 100 posts, what if anything do you plan to do?

ok, so what I do to get those sticky labels off is cooking oil. You need to get off the worse of it by peeling off what you can, then take a paper towel or kleenex and dab cooking oil on it. Carefully scrape it off with your fingernail... works like a charm! Wash off with warm water. It's that easy!
By the way... love your blog!

I'm a big believer in Goo Gone (a commercial sticky remover), paint scrapers, and lag bolts (not applicable here). As or your 100th post, post from your heart. FYI, I don't think I was even conscious of such a milestone. I'm pretty sure I was posting about something crappy like New Years Resolutions. But you've probably noticed I'm not obsessed with etiquette.

I curse those stupid tags all the time. On my tomatoes, on my glasses, on my bananas....oh wait, i peel that part. Never mind!

I did nothing of note for my 100th post. Some say you need to do 100 things about me. I say...whatever!

How funny you should mention sticky labels. Just before I turned on the computer, I was peeling off the labels stuck on the new pair of sandals I bought today and was elated to find they just peeled right off without any problems. As for really awful labels, I agree with Patches about Goo Gone. We used it to remove all sorts of gummy things stuck on books returned to the library and it worked like a charm.
Oh...and I have no good advice for your 100th post since mine occurred this past week and I totally forgot all about it. Oh well...

Michele - Welcome to my blog. I'm glad you like it:~) Cooking oil is a great idea...I will definitely try it next time I'm faced with a particularly stubborn label.

Patches - Goo Gone...you know I've heard of it, but never tried it. Did the missus need to use any of that when you sat in the tile sealant...or did water suffice in that case?

Meno - You know, I don't mind the labels on plastic shrink wrap because it's going to come off...like the banana peel...but,I agree...why do they put labels on tomatoes? Do they think that the tomato doesn't know what kind of tomato it is?

Joan - You bought new sandals??? Where???? Are they cute???? Do I want them???

Lynn: do you sisters take the same size shoe? awesome if that's the case.
I didn't do anything for my 100th post...I'll wait until 300th or 500th.

But feel free to mark the milestone and write away...we'll all be reading.

I have my blog bookmarked to my actual page...so I jump right past the dashboard and have no idea what number post I'm on. So I totally missed my blogaversary & my 100th post...I have no idea what number I'm up to now, but since I blab a lot it's probably pretty high. I wouldn't worry about making a big deal. I've see some that say "This is my 100th post. Woo Hoo! Now back to your normally scheduled day." LOL

And that totally sucks about the labels. What's worse when you find something that is together, like nesting boxes and they want you to pay for each piece! It looks like a set, you have it nested like a set (yeah, I know it's to save shelf space) so it should be priced like a set! In Korea I was at a small shop and there were 3 cute bowls shrinkwraped together...the price on the bottom was W1000 (roughly $1!) So I go to buy them and find that the part I couldn't read on the label was the "each." I bought them anyway as it was only $3...but I was disappointed to not get the better deal. We still have the bowls, they're great for cereal & ice cream.

Sticky labels on dish ware annoys me, too! It's such a pain. However, I usually just put it in the dishwasher with the label on it. And then right after the cycle is done, I take it out and the label just comes right off. If you do this approach, however, you have to make sure that you take the dish out of the dishwasher immediately after the dishwasher is done running. Otherwise...well, let's just say the label will then stay on forever. Even Goo-gone won't get rid of it.

As for the 100th post. It's kind of up to you. I did a cheesy post talking about why i started blogging and why I quit and why I came back when I got to 100 posts. Some people don't do anything to "celebrate" the number of posts. It's kind of up to each individual blogger and what you want to roll with!

Patti - No, Joan and I do not wear the same size shoe. My feet are narrow, but not 'quadruple A' which is what I think Joan wears. Glad you weren't posting at 4:50am your time;~)

Renee - I agree about the nesting of items...if they fit together so well, there should be a special price if you buy all of the sizes. That is so bizarre about the bowls that were shrink wrapped together...If that happened here, you can be sure that people would open the shrink wrap and just buy 1 or 2 ;~)

Arm - In theory putting the dishes with the label into the dishwasher sounds like a great idea, but what happens if the label actually falls of during the cycle...would it clog the dishwasher? I'm clearly not as brave as you when it comes to exploring the boundries and capabilities of my appliances;~)

Hmmm...I don't know if it would clog. I haven't had that happen yet. But I could see that being a possible issue.

Lynn, I have had labels come off in the dishwasher. They usually land at the bottom by the drain and I just retrieve them.

One-hundred posts? Wonderful. It certainly is better to increase your posts, than your age! Agree on the sticky labels

Lynn said...

Arm - I'm thinking if you haven't had any problems with the labels, then it probably wouldn't be a problem.

Patti - Just landing in the bottom by the drain would be o.k. by me.

Ralph - I agree that it is better to be approaching 100 posts than 100 years.

When I got to 100, I contemplated a parade but not everyone could take the day off of work. I ended up compliing my 10 favourite posts and linking them. And then talking about how great I am for getting to 100. There was no mention of modesty. Congratulations!
