It's a Long Way to Tipperary

This afternoon I am driving Twelve and two other girl scouts 118 miles each way (that's a minimum of a 5 hour round trip) for a two hour Girl Scout event. I obviously didn't think about the logistics when I signed the girls up. Fortunately, Twelve likes the two other girls and I enjoy the company of the other mom that is attending. That should make for a good car ride.

The actual event is from 6:30pm-8:30pm. We are planning to leave here at 3pm, after I get home from picking Ten up at school. Did I mention 5 hours in the car round-trip (if we're lucky and there is no traffic on a Friday night, yeah...right)? I told Twelve to pick out some movies for them to watch. Hopefully that will keep the girls occupied enough so that I won't hear the "Are we almost there yet?" refrain, or worse yet...bickering. Figure to return home about 11pm.

I already picked up dinner for everyone, that way if there is traffic, the girls will be able to eat their dinner in the car. I figure this will help keep my stress level down, if we happen to run into Friday night, get out of town, traffic. The weather is not cooperating. For some reason it is actually raining today (which, this year at least, has been a rare occurance.) It looks like the sun is trying to come out. I hope so. I really don't enjoy driving that far in the rain.

I hope that this event is worthwhile and that the girls all have a good time. That will make this journey worth it. However, I am going to take two Advil...just in case.

Are you actually swallowing the Advil, or taking them in your pocketbook so you have them with you if you need them?
I hope you have a safe and uneventful trip.
As for around here, I see that bright orb in the sky again...what could it be?

So how come you pick the ONE rainy day in months to drive all that way? I know you're on the road as I write this so I will send you good driving vibes through the air. Mmmmmmmm... Okay, hopefully they've reached you!!!

You're a good mommy. I hope the driving was smooth and uneventful and the event was worth the drive! Although, I'm sure it will be more worth it to your daughter.

I admire your dedication to scouting...to take your charges on a long, yet rewarding and enriching trip. Scouts need real leaders, and you show it here.

Probably wise to take the Advil. I hope it is a good trip.

Patti - I did both. I took two Advil, and I took 10 with me as backups. That bright orb is the sun that has entered your alternate universe.

Joan - It just worked out that way. I wondered where all of those good vibes that I felt, were from ;~)

Arm - The drive was uneventful. Thank goodness! Amazingly Twelve enjoyed the workshop, so it was definitely worth it!

Ralph - Thanks for the support. I believe that April 22 or 24 is "Thank your Girl Scout Leader Day"...since I know that none of the girls or their parents will bother to say "thanks" to me, I will substitute your kind words and consider myself thanked...so thanks.

Judi - From experience, I have learned to plan ahead...and to bring plenty of Advil;~)

Yeah, it was worth it. This is good to hear. I can't imagine driving five hours for a two hour event. You're a damn great mom.

I echo Egan's words. You are a great Mom, Lynn.
Glad the trip was uneventful. I'm off to see Kid One (a short drive).

More later...

I was wondering about that just 2 Advil comment...cuz I take nearly a bottle at a time. LOL

You deserve a Gold trophy or something for being a great GS Leader. Our Troop has a message board, so I'll have to post that tid bit on there. hee hee

Egan - Aw shucks, thanks. Do you think I can "bank" my "Great Mom Moments" to use in the times that Twelve thinks I'm the "Meanest Mom in the World"?

Patti - I heard your echo...does that count for two "Great Mom Moments"?

Renee - From one Girl Scout Leader to another...Advil Rocks! BTW, April 22nd is officially Girl Scout Leader Day. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being a Girl Scout Leader!

Hi Lynn - It's nice to catch up with what's going on in your world... A belated happy anniversary!!! And I hope your road trip went well with no rude drivers, bickering in the backseat, and that your shorts were not too tight!

Pam - Welcome back to the world of blogging. Clearly from your comment, you have caught up with my life ;~)

Yes, I think you can bank the Great Mom Points for later use. I know I banked Good Kid Points as a child so it should also apply as a parent.
