Out With The Old...In With The New

Today I exchanged my old work laptop for a new one. I've been told that the new one is a lot faster (which isn't saying much since the old one worked at a snail's pace). I can say with certainty that the new laptop is definitely a lot heavier. (which isn't such a good thing).

I've been distracted the past few days, trying to be sure that I backed-up and removed all of my files off of the old computer (I know...nothing is ever really removed). I also spent time trying to be sure that any personal stuff was off of the laptop.

I am not really computer savvy, or literate...so it took me awhile to figure out how 'erased' I could make the computers memory. Evidently I did a pretty good job because the technician who took my old computer came to ask me if I had ever put any files on the old laptop...evidently he couldn't find any. Yeah me.

Now I get to spend some time playing with the new laptop...because, of course, they didn't give me any instructions on how to use it...sigh.

Oooooh...a new "toy". Oops...I mean a new "tool" for work. Can I come and play with it?

Scary, but playing around with a new laptop sounds kinda fun to me.

I gotta get out more.

I didn't get any instructions with my new computer either. And it's not color coded like my Dell was.

Hope you like your new toy.

I think I'm gonna update my blog with what I did do and what I still need to do.

If it has tires you drive it, if it has a keyboard surf the web, and send obnoxious e-mails.

I so so impressed that you could erase your old one. You and Joan amaze me sometimes. I am so (sigh) far behind you guys.

From what I remember about laptops, they don't require instructions. Just fire it up and start navigating. You can't really break a computer can you?

I hate new technology. I got a new camera for Christmas which was nice but now I have to figure out how to make it work.

And good on you for figuring out how to erase your files and transfer them.

Marshamlow - Thanks

Meno -It's not that I would read the instructions if I had them...it would just be nice to have them.

Joan - Come on over.

Patti - I am now getting used to it.

Leanne - It is fun...as long as nothing goes wrong.

Renee - They want you to look at their manuals on-line, if there is a problem...only problem with that is that if there is a problem, you probably can't get on-line to access the manual. sigh

Michele - I cannot take a long time to figure it out...I've already had to do work stuff on it. I haven't had time to play and see what fun stuff (if any) is on it...maybe this weekend.

Patches - I couldn't get the wireless to work with my home network...it took a while but now I can surf the net and stop cursing the idiots who didn't provide me with instructions on how to get the wireless to work...I hate having to figure things out...when I have time constraints.

The Moose Buyer - Don't be so impressed...I just pushed a bunch of buttons and evidently one of them did the job.

Egan - It took me a long time to figure out how to connect the wireless system with my home portal. Of course it turns out that it was an easy fix...I just called my internet provider and followed their directions. As far as breaking a computer...you probably can't, but you can sure mess it up...sigh (or at least that's what I worry I might do)

Deb - I don't enjoy reading instruction manuals, but then I never really get to use all of the bells and whistle, unless someone tells me about using them. Transferring the information, was no different than backing it up...it was making sure that it was as erased as possible that took me a while to figure out.

Good work, I always worry trying to get things off of computers. did I get my photos off? Did I take off the blue's clues game that six liked to play? Aye!

Sari - That's exactly how I felt as well. I didn't want anything personal left on the computer on the off chance that they would 'recycle' it by giving it to someone else. Believe me...I was stressed about getting it all off...and thrilled when the technician asked me if I had saved any files on the computer because he couldn't find any.
