Shopping Spree

Joan and I took Twelve shopping yesterday to look for some clothes. Twelve has two events to go to (reluctantly) and she needed a dress to wear. We found a wonderful dress (which Aunt Joan picked out) and some darling shoes for Twelve, along with a couple of tops. As an added bonus, I found a skirt and top to wear to one of the events, a couple of tops, and a pair of boots. Joan still wasn't feeling 100% so she didn't purchase anything, but she certainly had a jolly good time spending my money for me... and I am greatful!

While shopping in one of the stores, Twelve asked me when she was going to be able to get her ears pierced. (This is something that we had discussed, and decided that she would be able to do for her 13th birthday. I had mentioned to DH, earlier in the morning, that I might have Twelve get her ears pierced while out shopping...he thought that would be a fabulous idea. ) When she asked me and I told her that I was planning on having them done while shopping, her face lit up. The look of wonder, excitement, and awe at what I had just said, was absolutely precious.

We found a store that does 'free' ear piercing and gives you 'complimentary' cleaner. Yeah right...free. hahaha. It's free for the ear piercing, but they charge you for the earrings.

So now between the gorgeous dress, cute shoes and pierced ears, Twelve looks, in her words 'hot'. I'm not sure how I feel about that. That's a post for another day.

LOL about looking Hot. Poor mom.

sounds like a totally fun day of shopping. I wish we could find some decent dresses around here. I had to order some for DD online. I'm gonna check the second hand stores too though.

DD asked when she was 6 if she could get hers pierced when she was 7. Since I had mine done at 6 I was okay with that and DH said it was my decision. So then one day about 6 months later DD asked if she could get them done that day and I said sure. We too got the free piercing and free ear cleaner for $$40! who do they think they're fooling?

Well at least you can avoid Twelve wearing loopy or dangly earrings for a while until her ears heal. I've told DD that she couldn't wear any loops until she was older because I didn't want her to snag them and rip her holes like mine are. She's been really good about it. I may get her some small loops soon.

Lynn, our daughter was going to have hers done when she turned 16...woops. Missed that. She's almost 19.
She will probably get them done when she is home for Christmas break. I know she wants them pierced.

Sounds like you have a real teen-ager on your hands!

P.S. Glad to read that sis is up to going shopping. I'm concerned about her.

That's cool! I remember when I got my ears pierced when I was 8 with my sister. It was awesome!! I was sooooo excited. Just my opinion but I still don't understand why there's an age limit to some having their ears pierced. I don't want to seem disrespectful here but so many parents that I know have their baby girl's ears pierced almost at birth. I suppose it's a responsibility that needs to be earned I can respect that.
Glad you all had a good time shopping!

Oh what a wonderful day. My daughter got her ears pierced at 9, they closed up and she hasn't worn ear rings in years. I remember how excited she was at the time. I guess she takes after me, I don't remember the last time I wore ear rings either. I love those shopping trips when it all works well and you have a ton of girl fun together.

I remember when Liz got her ears pierced. We decided I would go first as I got a second set in my ears - as if there weren't already enough holes in my head. I had forgotten how much it hurts!

Next we will get mother-daughter tattoos!

Kidding, of course.

Get used to the whole "hot" thing...
;-)

The only reason I had my ears pierced was because Auntie E didn't want to have it done alone. I was 15 years old. Brings back memories.

Happy Joan is better.

That's a nice bonding experience. I never bothered piercing mine, don't remember why. I guess if I don't remember it wasn't important to me :)

I'm glad Joan is feeling like people again.

Don't worry about Twelve and looking 'hot'. You have and continue to provide her with guidance and values.

Hopefully that spendthrift Joan will be back to posting soon. I understand you are the Bayside Girls (plural), and like to read both blogs...

Renee - You laugh now about the 'hot' thing...just wait until Darly is thirteen;~)

Patti - I waited until I was 18, to have mine done, but that was only because my dad said that I couldn't have my ears pierced until then.

Michele - I didn't want Twelve to get her ears pierced, until I knew that she was responsible enough to take care of cleaning them, during the first 6 week period, and that she would be careful of her newly pierced earlobes.

Armalicious - It was a really fun day. Shopping for clothes & shoes & ear piercing with good company, what more could a girl want?

Marsha - I think that Twelve will wear earrings a lot (after the 6 week period is up) because she has been wanting to get her ears pierced for a long time, and mean mommy that I am, I made her wait until now.

Pam - I've heard that the second holes hurt more than the first...or is that just holes in the cartilage? As for the hot thing...can a mother ever really get used to it?

The Moose Buyer - Did you want yours pierced? or did you have them done for your mom?

Ms. Chica - It was a nice bonding experience...I don't really know why I got my ears pierced, other than my father told me I couldn't until I was 18...so as soon as I could I guess I did, just to show him I could. How mature was that?

Ralph - Both my DH and I, have worked hard to instill morals and values into both of our kids. I am so hoping that somehow all/some of them 'stick'. I hope that Joan,my older sister, returns to blogging soon, too! (Maybe by referring to her as my older sister, she will decide to reply).
