Advice Sought

DH continues to look for work. I signed up to work summer school. Money is tight. However, none of these things are what I need advice about.

I have a dilemma that I could really use some help with. I just found out that someone that I know has been reading my blog. This makes me uncomfortable. It's not that have said anything bad about this person...it's just that it creeps me out that they know stuff about me and speak to me as if I had shared this stuff with them personally. I haven't blogged in a few weeks partially because I don't want them to know everything that is going on in my life.

I'm not sure how to handle this. Asking them to stop reading my blog won't work. I know that some of you have faced this dilemma before. Any help that you could offer to me would be greatly appreciated.

Well most folks I know change blogs when that happens. You could also turn your blog into an invitation only blog if you really wanted to.

Sorry I'm not so computer techy to help more than that.

I can't think of a way around this, Lynn, other than what Renee suggested. I know the feeling, though... For some reason it's easier for me to write if I don't think anyone I know will read it.

I hope things are looking up on the job search for your DH... I think about you so often regarding this because I know how tough it is...
((hugs))

Hi Lynn,

This is unfortunate and does happen. I had the same situation, I had to start up a new Blog called the Owl Light about 4 months ago by invitation only as well and it works great.

Some people start up a brand new blog and that works really well.

Another way is if you know the IP number of the person(s) there is a website...
IP Address Blocker
Take a look here.

I sure hope it all works out for you.
Hugsssss

I know some people have added password protection to their blogs. I don't know if you can do it on blogger, I know you can on Wordpress, but it shows your blog, only if you want to have a person be able to read your posts, they have to enter a password. Usually they can enter it once and then the posts will all show up (unless they clear their cookies or history, the they have to enter it again).

If you change your blog, email me so I know where to find you! It's funny, most of my family (not all) know about my blog but none of my friends know or read mine.

Welcome back, Lynn!

I guess invitation only would be a good idea.

And Kid Two thinks invitation only is your "best bet."

Renee - Invitation only sounds like a good idea...I'll have to look into it.

Pam - That's it exactly...it's easier to write if I don't think anyone I know (with a few exceptions) is reading it. As far as the job search...there has to be a more descriptive word than 'tough'...cause it's so much more than that.

Michele - I figured that you would have some good ideas. I'll look into that IP address blocker.

Sari - I'll check out the password stuff and see if I can do that on Blogger. I'll definitely email you:~)

Patti - Thanks. Since Kid Two thinks that invitation only would be my best bet...then it must be...given that Kid Two clearly has a better handle on all of this computer and technical 'stuff' than I do. I will check out the invitation only option (if there is one on blogger)

Kid Two said the IP address blocker is not a permanent solution, I don't understand why though.

Patti - I think it's because if the person switches and uses a different computer, they would have access to the blog. There is probably some other technical reason (something about IP address changing). Please tell Kid Two thanks for the info:~)

you know i just started a new blog. it seemed like the easier thing to do -- i still have people ask me about my old blog and i just play stupid

Ugh that is a hard one. The invitation only thing works and we all know someone that recently changed because of that, but I have no idea. People in my real life read my blog and I am aware of that when I write. I have thought of starting a super secret blog that I could write things I wouldn't share on my regular blog. Maybe we all just need to do a group super secret blog for those items...

Madge - Playing stupid would be oh so easy for me:~)

HRH - I love the idea of a group super secret blog. Since you are committed to blogging 366 days this year, no one will ever suspect:~)

I've had to moderate what I say on my blog because several close friends read my blog. I said something once that one of them misunderstood. Now when I need to write something that could be misconstrued or misunderstood, I password protect it on wordpress. I don't like the wordpress interface but it is super easy to import blogger posts to there so I use it as an archive.

You could also try talking with your friend and explaining to her that your journal is a lot like an online diary. Most people who read it don't know you in person so don't know the specific people or situations you describe. You can reassure her that you are not intending to hurt anyone's feelings - each person looks at events differently and you write what you feel. Before she reads between the lines and takes offence at something she should talk to you to clear up matters. Or something like that :)

Fine, if you don't want me to read... I won't. Pouts in corner as a joke.

I think you just carry on as normal. Like you said, you don't have anything to hide.
