Six Days A Week.

After six days straight of cooking dinner I can definitely say that I am not enjoying myself. I don't mind cooking...but everynight??????? If I'm not careful, pretty soon I may be sporting a dress, pearls, high heels and an apron just to cook dinner...Donna Reed, June Cleaver, and Betty Crocker better watch out.

Now I realize that most normal people probably cook every night, and will go out to eat, or bring something in once in a while, or maybe even once a week. Up until this point in my marriage, I haven't had to do that. I've been very fortunate that my DH hasn't minded eating out or bringing food in a few days a week. My excuse (not that I need one) is that I work everyday, then bring the kids to their various activities and by the time we're finished...I am too tired to cook. I want some time to kick back and relax...and what better way to do that then to have someone else cook for me.

My DH is a fabulous cook...he loves to cook...he is a creative cook. However he doesn't get home from work until 7:30pm...and although we eat that late, it is just too late for him to start cooking dinner. His current job will end at the end of this month. Unless he finds another job before then, (and I certainly hope he does), I will gladly pass the cooking torch over to him.

I just had an idea...this may solve my dilemma over what to give DH for Valentines Day...maybe I should buy him an apron...just in case:~)

re: cookies. Ours are through www.littlebrownie.com I think yours are through ABC Bakers since you described the cookie that we were told about. Our state recently merged all it's councils together but parts of the state use ABC Bakers instead of Little Brownie. We got 2 new cookies, Lemon Chalet Creams & Sugar Free Chocolate Chip. Last year we had a Sugar Free Brownie cookie that really BOMBED!!! People actually returned the cookies and asked for a refund! So this year we tried really hard to not have folks order the Sugar Free cookies...it wasn't that hard really. I had 2 boxes sold. LOL! Over all DD has sold 254 so far and the orders keep coming...I need to blog about that. This morning was funny.

re: your dinners. Hey, you have to do what works for your family. I cook at home most of the time, but we go out at least every 2 weeks...just for a change. However, when my mom was here I cooked all the time! I managed and I'm finding that I am cooking a lot more since she left. I have a trick though that helps a lot. I think that I mentioned it to you before. I cook large meals that can be reheated. So on day one: I cook. On day two: I reheat. Sometimes the meals last a third day (but usually the family is ready for something new by then.) Something else you can try is making a double batch and freeze the second batch. And lots of folks like those "make ahead" places...but you can do the same thing at home. My friend Heather does these meal plans where she makes lots of meals based on the same base ingredient. Then she has an extra freezer that she packs them all away in.

I hope your hubby cooks some really good meals for you and gets a great job soon. I know how stressful this can be. ((hugs))

Don't know if this will help, but maybe you and/or he could cook some stuff over the weekend and freeze it.

Make sure you get him some pearls to go with that apron.

Yep, I was thinking the pearls and heels would look good with the apron too.

But really, I am so tired of cooking these days that I'm jealous that you've got a hubby that'll do it. Either I cook, or we starve...I'm the only one who can seem to figure out how to order in too. Can you say dependant?

I'm lucky that Ralph likes to cook too, and he's really good at it.
An apron sounds like a great gift!

My new years resolution was too cook more and eat out less, so far we have cut the eating out to about once a month. I am so over cooking. It is a lot of work. It isn't just the actual cooking, but the planning and shopping, and then the clean up. I am hoping your husband finds a new job that pays more and he gets off work early enough to cook you dinner every night.

You know Uncle Bill was a much much better cook than Auntie Evelyn (horrible old family receipe for hamburgers) and I can't even make eggs (remember the green scrambled ones)so it must run in our family.

Hope DH gets some good news before he is done with this job.

I vote for the cooking ahead idea. You'll be amazed at how much time it saves. I also vote for the apron and pearls for the hubby.

I hope the job search is quick and easy and fruitful!

Renee - I started to cook enough for two dinners. Tonight we have leftovers:~) yippee!

Meno - Cooking on the weekends for the week, is a great idea. Usually we are running from one thing to another on the weekend, but I think that DH and I need to be sure to carve out some time to make things for the week. I have a lovely strand of pearls that he can borrow:~)

Leanne - I think the pearls would go lovely with DH's eyes. lol I can definitely say 'dependant'.

Patti - I think that an apron really would be a good gift...I'm just not sure that DH would wear one.

Marshamlow - I hope that he finds a job (first and foremost). One where he gets off early enough to come home and make dinner, would be heavenly.

The Moose Buyer - I can cook...I just don't love doing it.

Pam - Last night I made enough to eat so that we will be able to have the leftovers again tonight. It's funny how some dishes taste better the second night...and unfortunately, some don't. I hope his job search is quick easy, and fruitful, too:~)

Cooking and all that goes with it takes a lot of time and energy. I try to cook big meals every 2nd or 3rd night and have leftovers the other nights. I have become a huge fan of leftovers.

An apron for your husband sounds perfect.

I don't mind cooking, but I do mind spending hours in the kitchen.

I understand some people take the crock pot route. I steam a lot of veggies, or do stir fry. If your veggies are pre chopped, it doesn't take long. A pot of chili or lentil soup prepared over the weekend will provide multiple meals during the week. Have a build your own salad night. Don't forget to involve Elle or Sport in the process. Teach about food preparation early, then when they have more experience, you can pass them the torch, by making them responsible for preparing one meal a week.

And definitely go with the pearls!
