There Were Fireworks

This weekend we took the kids to see Fireworks. On the 4th of July, we had a BBQ with some firends, and then went to a nearby mall to watch a fireworks show. (Actually we parked on a street about 1 mile from the mall). Not only did we get to see the fireworks...we also saw a fire on a hill, that was started by the fireworks...yikes. Fortunately, the firefighters were stationed on the hill where the fireworks were being lit, and the fire was put out quickly...whew!

Last night, a local park held an outdoor concert, and another fireworks display. This time we were up close to where the fireworks were being set off. It was loud, bright, and quite impressive! All the kids really had a good time!

Today everyone is off to various activities. Sport is off to camp from 8-3, Elle will be a Senior Program Aide at a different Girl Scout Camp in the afternoon, Yulia will have class this morning and then take a tour of UCLA, Surya will have a class this morning and then head off to Universal Studios, and I head off to work summer school.

We are all starting to feel sad that our time with our foreign exchange students is drawing to a close. Both kids will go to San Francisco next weekend (we will be camping with some friends), and then next Monday, Surya will leave :~( He is an awesomely funny, polite, and helpful kid and none of us are looking forward to his leaving. Yulia will be with us for one additional week.

I am trying to take one day at a time...but the days seem to be flying by...sigh.

a couple of the fire works displays near us caught fire on the 4th too. I feel bad for all the folks who drove to see the shows because one show was cut short at about 3 min, the other at about 5 min. I'm glad your show went well even with the fire.

DD is looking forward to her PA days but for right now is really enjoying camping a lot. She has written a letter to her former councelor that I need to get into the mail before the season is over. LOL!

It seems as if your "rented" kids are so busy that they really aren't there much. I'm glad that you're all having a great time. I'm sure this is a relationship that will last a long time.

re: coming to my place for the 4th. Sure! Why not? LOL! DH says he wants to finish the basement so we should have plenty of guest bedrooms by next year. ;)

Even though the days with your visitors are to end, you and your family and your guests will have a lifetime of memories.

Surprised that in CA fireworks are even allowed these days. Better the fire personnel perform the show, not the suburban knuckleheads who are merely lucky the still have their fingers after they set off their amateur fireworks show...

How do keep up with all these activities? You must have endless energy in reserve.

Renee - The fireworks display continued even with the fire.

Ralph - You are correct about the lifetime of memories. As for the fireworks...I think that you hit the nail on the head...better the professionals put on the show than the knuckleheads...who would probably burn the whole state down.

Patches - I have been borrowing energy from the kitties...they sure seem to have a lot of it!

What fantastic memories you are creating for all involved.
You are one busy (and I guess tired) mama.
